Not By Might

I found it very hard to get into this book. The writing was a bit to "flowery" for my taste. I did start to get into the book and enjoy it more about half way through. There was some excitement added that drew me into the plot more. One thing that I did enjoy though is the author's use of Scripture. Al Lacy quotes many Scriptures throughout this book and the characters pray very often. I found this to be very encouraging a good reminder to pray more in my own life. I would be interested in reading other books in this series. I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

Heaven Is For Real

I started to read this book with a lot of apprehension. I didn't have doubts that a small child could experience a heavenly experience, but I was skeptical that he would be able to articulate that experience.

It took me about half way through the book to lay my opinion aside and truly open my mind that this was a true experience. Upon completion of the book, my heart believes that little Colton did in fact have this experience and through the years was able to share about it.

The Scriptures talk about having a child-like faith. As adults, we complicate our faith and God. We put God in a box. Colton experienced Jesus and our Heavenly home that we long for in a special way. After reading this book, my heart is encouraged to be pure before our Savior so that I too, will be able to experience the wonder of Heaven.

I was given a complimentary copy of Heaven Is For Real by BookSneeze (Thomas Nelson) and was not paid with monetary value.

Forsaking All Others

I could hardly put this book down. It kept my attention and made me really think. Allison Pittman skillfully tells the story of Camilla Fox. Camilla made the defying decision to leave the Mormon church. This included leaving her husband and for a brief time, her daughters. It was a very dangerous situation in which she placed herself, but Camilla knew she had to free herself of the chains that had her bound so that she would be better able to serve the true God. I plan on checking to see if there is a sequel to this series as I enjoyed it SO much. I was given a complimentary copy of "Forsaking All Others" from Tyndale House Publishers and have been in no way paid for this review.

It's Not About Me

It's Not About Me is another classic book written by Max Lucado. This amazing author reminds us that we are here on this earth to glorify God and for His pleasure. We live in a world where instant gratification is not only expected, but encouraged. Scripture tells us that our bodies are vessels for Christ and that all glory is due Him. Lucado masterfully encourages us in his down-to-earth style of writing to remember this. I would encourage others to read this book. I received It's Not About Me by Max Lucado from BookSneeze and was not paid for this review.

Horse Dreams

I received the book Horse Dreams complimentary from Tyndale House Publishers. My 10 year old daughter read this book and the following is her review.

My mom had me read the book Horse Dreams. This book is about a girl who has always wanted a black stallion show horse. However, this all changed the day that she helped capture a pinto. She got to know this horse and finally realized that what she had been praying for (a black stallion) was actually a black stallion, but a pinto.

I did not like this book because it was a bit young for me. I believe it would be good for 7-8 year olds. I think this book teaches a good lesson in that when you pray for something the answer is a bit different, but it's right in front of your face; you just have to realize it.

Churched

I absolutely unequivocally loved reading "Churched: One Kid's Journey Toward God Despite a Holy Mess." Matthew Paul Turner has such a comedic flair to his writing which he uses to get his point across. It talks about how it was for him growing up in a very strict fundamental church. He portrays the innocence of a child very well. You will travel through the years along with Matthew and will see just what it was like to be him. This book will leave you smiling, if not out right laughing. I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review

Making the Best of a Bad Decision

The title of this book caught my attention. When you think about it, who hasn't made a bad decision in their lifetime? I am notorious for over thinking decisions I make. Some may argue that this is good, however, it can be quite exhausting and made more of an emotional experience than needed.

Erwin W. Lutzer writes in a very straightforward manner. He presents several areas in life that bad decisions can be made. It was quite interesting to see how he helps the reader to see that Christ can make the best of our bad decisions. It doesn't mean a life ruined forever. Some decisions can lead to a lifetime of heartache, but it doesn't mean that Jesus gives up on us.

I loved the statement he made "the most disastrous decision you can make is to neglect what Jesus offers us: eternal life both now and forever." How very true!

I highly recommend this book to anyone! Not just those who have made bad decisions, but each and every one of us.
